H+C x HiBAR

the edit 2.0

Hi there,

In 2021, I made a promise to myself that I’d pursue work that made me feel good and do good. I wanted to partner with agencies and brands whose values aligned with my own ethical positions. I wanted to work with clients who were making the world a better place through their products or the way they worked. I had no idea the momentum my promise would generate, and my recent work with HiBAR feels like another spark of this promise coming to life.

I care deeply about the environment, and I find my greatest moments of happiness when I’m floating on Late Washington, in Seattle, when I’m hiking the narrows of Zion National Park in Utah walking around Lake Harriett in Minnesota. I turn to nature, water specifically, when I need to recharge and I am looking for inspiration. Because of my passion for protecting our water, I was inspired by HiBAR’s commitment to creating salon-quality beauty products while reducing single-use plastic, and I was thrilled to partner with them to create a series of still photos as part of a brand refresh.

First, I loved the brand. HiBAR creates the highest-quality beauty products, including shampoo, conditioner and face wash using natural (and cruelty free) ingredients. HiBAR’s beautifully-shaped beauty bars are inspired by the landscape of the North Shore of Lake Superior. Packaged in 100% plastic free, recyclable, or compostable materials, these gorgeous shoreline-inspired products elevate beauty rituals while protecting the environment.

Second, I loved how we worked this project. Increasing representation and authenticity, we cast real people who used HiBAR products, rather than turning to professional talent for the shoot. Since being a student at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, I have enjoyed working with people who didn’t necessarily see themselves as models. Since then, I’ve learned that I’m great at creating connections with the people I’m photographing. I put them at ease, and the connection we forge allows me to capture their authentic beauty. It’s important tone that my subjects look and feel their best! That’s all for now, stay tuned.
